My Abuelita, written by Tony Johnston, is a Pura Belpre winner. It's a story about a little boy who lives with his grandmother, who is a storyteller. In the book he spend the day with his grandmother. I liked the book and was fascinated by the illustrations. The illustrator used clay to make the characters come to life. That made the book even more unique. This is a must read to any lower grade classroom, especially kinder. Johnston, Tony (2009). My Abuelita. New York: Hartcourt.
