In Our Mother's House by Patricia Polacco is a challenged book because it deals with same sex marriage. Two parents, both female, share their story of raising a family and the discrimination they experience in their neighborhood. Meema and Maemee are living a happy life, raising three children as normal as they can. But when a troublesome neighbor disagrees with their living arrangement and lifestyle, she tries to cause trouble. The children grow up to be successful adults and are grateful for having wonderful parents that raise then well and gave them a normal life, as best they could. I really enjoyed this book. I feel that more books like this one need to be out there to educate people and show them that children can be raise by same sex couples.
